Life Skills Program Volunteering

Life Skills is a seven-week program that is taught five days a week for five hours a day inside the Union County Jail. The program educates and challenges men to live an improved life in several key areas:


  • Self-identify
  • Boundary setting
  • Disease prevention
  • Addiction recovery
  • Character development
  • Building and maintaining relationships
  • Anger and stress management
  • Goal setting, budget development
  • Negative emotional issues identification and elimination (12-Step approach)
  • Marriage and family relationships
  • Job preparation

At the Union County Jail, volunteers receive Volunteer Training as required by that institution, and are also required to submit to a background check.


Volunteer Opportunities for the Life Skills Program at the Union County Jail:


  • Teacher – May be asked to teach one session every seven weeks
  • Library Cart Volunteer – 2 hours/twice a week needed
  • Administrative Duties – Includes receipting, filing, etc.; 2-3 hours/week needed
  • Mailing Preparation – Preparation of newsletter mailing; 8 hours needed quarterly
