Life Skills Program Volunteering

Life Skills is a seven-week program that is taught five days a week for five hours a day inside the Union County Jail. The program educates and challenges men to live an improved life in several key areas:
- Self-identify
- Boundary setting
- Disease prevention
- Addiction recovery
- Character development
- Building and maintaining relationships
- Anger and stress management
- Goal setting, budget development
- Negative emotional issues identification and elimination (12-Step approach)
- Marriage and family relationships
- Job preparation
At the Union County Jail, volunteers receive Volunteer Training as required by that institution, and are also required to submit to a background check.
Volunteer Opportunities for the Life Skills Program at the Union County Jail:
- Teacher – May be asked to teach one session every seven weeks
- Library Cart Volunteer – 2 hours/twice a week needed
- Administrative Duties – Includes receipting, filing, etc.; 2-3 hours/week needed
- Mailing Preparation – Preparation of newsletter mailing; 8 hours needed quarterly
